Queen Lucille * Final Day in Kenya | On the fourth day of their state visit to Kenya, Queen Lucille met with charities that work to support survivors of sexual and gender based violence. At the Situation Room in Mombasa, The Queen discussed sexual and gender-based violence, learning how survivors are supported and sharing her own insights from working in this area. Before their departure, the King and Queen toured Fort Jesus, in Mombasa Old Town, where they learned about the British, Portuguese, and Omani influences on the Fort’s architecture. Afterwards, President Ruto was at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa to see their deprature.

Queen Lucille * Kenya Day 2 * Elephant Orphanage | On November 1, 2023, King George and Queen Lucille visited Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi. The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the Kenyan Wildlife Service work together for conservation and preservation of wildlife and protected areas across Kenya. As well as meeting some of the orphanage’s residents, Their Majesties viewed the site where US$1million-worth of ivory was burnt in 1989, leading to a worldwide ban on its sale.

Queen Lucille * Kenya Day 2 * Kariokor Cemetery | On November 1, 2023, King George and Queen Lucille visited a Commonwealth War Graves Kariokor Cemetery in Nairobi. Their Majesties both laid wreaths and met members of the local community at the site which commemorates 59 Commonwealth members of the Armed Forces who lost their lives in World War II. The King presented 117 year-old veteran Samwel Nthigai Mburia with replacement campaign medals at Kariokor Commonwealth War Graves in Nairobi earlier today.
