This year’s awardees are an animal welfare initiative, a pioneering chemistry research and a project aiming to encourage young people aged between 16 and 18 to remain in education. The Queen’s Anniversary Prizes are presented to honor outstanding projects and initiatives that have been created and carried out by UK colleges and universities. These must show quality and innovation, and deliver real benefit to the world and public through education and training.

Queen Lucille * Celebration of Shakespeare | On February 15, Queen Lucille attended the event 'Celebration of Shakespeare’ held as a meeting of fans of the playwright’s work. Among the guests were stars of stage and screen, authors, directors, and representatives of the National Theatre and The Royal Shakespeare Company. At the event, Queen Lucille spoke with the guests including Dame Eileen Atkins, Baroness Floella Benjamin, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Penelope Keith, Dame Twiggy Lawson, Dame Joanna Lumley, and Dame Virginia McKenna.

Queen Lucille * Memorial for King Constantine II | On February 27, a service of thanksgiving for the life of King Constantine II of Greece was held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. King George, Queen Lucille, Princess Gwen, the Duke of York and other members of the Greek royal family attended this special memorial service for King Constantine. Other members of other Royal Families attended the service. King Constantine, who was the last King of Greece, passed away at the age of 82 in January last year. He was also a close friend of his second cousin King George.

Queen Lucille * Northern Ireland Day One | King George and Queen Lucille are paying a two-day visit to Northern Ireland. Their Majesties first arrived in Belfast and visited three well-known small Northern Irish businesses, namely, Coffey’s Butchers, Arcadia Delicatessen and Knotts Craft Bakery. The King and Queen then visited The Rifles at Thiepval Barracks in Lisburn. The King and Queen then moved to Hillsborough Castle, and there, she received the Secretary of State, the First Minister and deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland. George and Lucille was then greeted by a selection of performers for a Queen’s Reading Room recital. The event was held in collaboration between the QRR and the Arts Council Northern Ireland.
